HOW DOES A POURED IN PLACE CONCRETE WALL DIFFER FROM A BLOCK WALL?

This is one of the most important questions in foundations and home construction today
and one most often NOT addressed.

1. Strength: Poured walls out-perform block walls in lateral and horizontal flexural
strength by a factor of three to six times.
2. Water Resistance: With no joints or seams (average block foundation has more than
7500) poured concrete walls are immediately water resistant, easier, and less costly to
waterproof; yielding better warrantees.
3. Earthquake Resistance: Concrete has in tests proven to be five to nine times
stronger than the maximum earthquake load-bending strength standards required by the
Uniform Building Code.
4. Fire Resistance: With hollow block walls by nature having so many joints, concrete
offers more than twice the protection.
5. Radon Protection: Once again due to concrete's lack of joints and high density,
danger of radon can be avoided.
6. Steel Reinforcement: Poured concrete is reinforced with steel, ensuring long life and
structural integrity.
7. Maintenance: With no seams or joints there are no foundation settling problems as is
common with block, cracking at block joints.
8. Backfill: After the walls are poured and you waterproof you are ready to backfill. This
saves you time by putting first floor materials at the first floor level.
9. Flexible Finish: Concrete walls can be finished in many styles and veneers, including a
standard brick embossed concrete.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT?

The total process, from footings through the completion of your walls, can usually be
completed in 2 to 4 Days, ready for waterproofing and backfill.
